DIY Starlight Ceiling Kits

The same panels our crews install, supplied for you to fit yourself at $55 per sq ft. No drilling into your ceiling, no attic access, no electrician for the panels. A 144 sq ft field is a weekend job for two people.

Save $22/sq ft

That's the whole difference between panels-only and fully installed — $3,168 on a 144 sq ft home theatre field. The panels are identical either way.

Why This Is a Realistic DIY Project

Most star ceiling DIY horror stories come from a completely different product. The traditional method means drilling hundreds of holes through your ceiling, threading individual fibre strands one at a time from an attic or crawlspace, and living with every hole you get wrong.

Our panels are not that. They're custom-manufactured acoustic ceiling tiles with the fibre optics and LED light engine already built in. They arrive finished. You put them in place.

  • No drilling into your ceiling — panels drop into a suspended grid or surface mount with our hardware
  • No attic access — everything happens from below
  • No electrician for the panels — low voltage, Cat5 daisy-chained panel to panel
  • Nothing permanent — panels lift back out if you want to change something
  • No fibre threading — the optics are already inside each panel
  • Same panels as our installed jobs — not a stripped-down kit version

One honest caveat: it's still overhead work, and panels are awkward to hold at arm's length above your head. You want a second person. A 144 sq ft field is a comfortable weekend for two; it's a miserable one on your own.

The Process

How a DIY Panel Install Goes

1

Send your room

Dimensions, ceiling type and grid module if you have one. We come back with a fixed panel price.

2

We design and build

Panels are made to your layout and matched to your grid and edge type. Allow build time.

3

Panels arrive crated

Freight is quoted separately at order. Unpack and check against the layout before you start.

4

Put them up

Drop into the grid or surface mount, daisy-chain the Cat5, plug in. A weekend for two people.

You'll need one thing we don't supply: a standard electrical outlet at the ceiling for the light engine to plug into. If there isn't one there already, that part is an electrician's job — but it's a single outlet, not a rewire.

FAQ

DIY Starlight Ceiling FAQ

Panels are $55 per sq ft. A 100 sq ft bedroom field is $5,500, a 144 sq ft home theatre field is $7,920, and a 300 sq ft living room is $16,500. Choosing panels only rather than full installation saves $22 per sq ft — $3,168 on a 144 sq ft field.
A 144 sq ft field is a weekend job for two people. Our crew does the same room in a day, but they do this every week. There's no drilling, no attic access and no ceiling repair, because the panels drop into a suspended grid or surface mount directly.
Not for the panels themselves. The LED light engine is built into the panel and the whole system runs on low voltage, daisy chained panel to panel with Cat5 cable. You do need a standard electrical outlet at the ceiling to plug the system into — if there isn't one there already, that part is an electrician's job.
For a suspended grid installation, very little — panels lift into the grid like a standard ceiling tile. For surface mounting you'll need a drill for the mounting hardware, a level and a helper. No hole drilling into the ceiling is involved either way.
Panels lift back out. Nothing is permanent, because nothing is drilled through your ceiling. That's the main practical difference between panels and a traditional fibre optic install, where every hole is final.
The panels are identical either way and the difference is $22 per sq ft of labour. Install it yourself if you're comfortable working overhead and have a helper. Have us do it for large rooms, awkward or high ceilings, commercial work, or if you want the lifetime workmanship warranty — that only covers installations our own crews carry out.
