Quick Answer: A starlight ceiling in San Francisco costs $55 per square foot for panels or $77 per square foot fully installed, with no separate travel charge. A typical 150 sq ft master bedroom runs $8,250 panels only or $11,550 installed, finished in a single day once our crew is on site.

We install custom fiber optic star ceilings across the Bay Area — San Francisco itself, down the Peninsula, over the bridge into Marin, and across to Oakland and Berkeley. Our panels are custom-manufactured acoustic ceiling tiles with the fibre optics and LED light engine already built in. They drop into a suspended grid or surface mount directly, with no attic access, no drilling and no ceiling repair.

Bay Area housing makes that construction genuinely useful. A lot of the building stock here is tall and narrow with rooms stacked over garages, and there is often no attic and very little space above a ceiling. Because our light engine sits inside the panel rather than in the void above it, we add almost no depth and need no access from above — which is exactly the situation a traditional fibre installation struggles with.

The flip side is the city's older stock. Victorian and Edwardian ceilings with original plaster, coving and decorative mouldings are a different proposition, and in a room with significant original detail panels may simply be the wrong product. We would rather tell you that than sell you something that fights the room.

Pricing is the same across the country — panels at $55 per square foot, installation at $22 per square foot on top, with no separate travel charge. San Francisco is not priced differently from anywhere else, which is unusual for a trade in this market.

Bay Area Projects We Take On

🎬 Media Rooms

Often on a lower or garden level where ceiling height is tight — which suits panels, because the light engine adds almost no depth. See home theatre star ceilings.

🛏️ Master Suites

Usually a centred field over the bed with a slow twinkle rather than full coverage. See bedroom star ceilings.

🍽️ Restaurants & Bars

Dining rooms and private rooms. Panels are UL fire-rated for commercial specification. See commercial star ceilings.

🏢 Offices & Reception

Reception ceilings and client-facing rooms, dropping into the existing grid so nothing gets rebuilt.

Period ceilings: Victorian and Edwardian rooms with original plaster, coving or decorative mouldings need looking at before anything is ordered. Panels are made for flat ceilings and suspended grids — a room with significant original detail may be better left alone or done another way. Send a photo and we'll tell you straight.

San Francisco Starlight Ceiling FAQ

Panels are $55 per sq ft delivered. Fully installed by our crew is $77 per sq ft, with no separate travel charge. A bedroom centre field of 100–150 sq ft runs $5,500–$8,250 panels only, or $7,700–$11,550 installed.
San Francisco proper including Pacific Heights, Nob Hill, Russian Hill, the Marina, Presidio Heights, Sea Cliff, Cow Hollow and Noe Valley, plus the Peninsula, Marin County and the East Bay. The South Bay has its own page. Panels ship anywhere in California if you'd rather install them yourself.
It depends on the ceiling. Panels drop into a suspended grid or surface mount to a flat ceiling. Original plaster, decorative mouldings and coved ceilings common in Victorian and Edwardian properties need assessment first, and in a room with significant original detail panels may be the wrong product. Send us a photo and we'll say honestly whether it works.
32 fibre points in a 2×2 panel and 64 in a 2×4, which works out at 8 per sq ft either way. A 144 sq ft centre field is around 1,150 points. Higher densities are available on request.
Yes, and unusually well. The LED light engine is built into the panel rather than sitting above the ceiling, so no void is needed and very little depth is added. That suits the lower-level and garden-level rooms common in Bay Area houses, where a traditional fibre installation would need space above the ceiling that doesn't exist.
Yes. Panels ship to any California address at $55 per sq ft. They run on 12V low-voltage power, daisy chain with Cat5 cable and need no drilling, so a 144 sq ft field is a weekend job for two people. Choosing panels only saves $22 per sq ft — see our DIY kits.
